Milford Manufacturing Services Debuts Virtual Available-to-Promise Capability Through “The Looking Glass™”

Milford, Mass. – February 23, 2004 – To provide OEMs with the only virtual available-to-promise capability in the industry, Milford Manufacturing Services (www.milfordmfg.com) has extended The Looking Glass™ – the company’s flexible virtual manufacturing environment.

The Looking Glass™ 2.0 now affords OEMs the unique and direct opportunity to determine how to best use contract manufacturing resources when forecasting demand or responding to an identified need for additional product within the market. In the past, the window of opportunity often closed while an OEM worked with its contract manufacturers – through the traditional and outdated program management paradigm – to determine if additional resources, materials and capacity were available to meet increased demand.

“We’ve thrown open the virtual doors and windows of Milford Manufacturing Services to give OEMs a clear and immediate view onto our manufacturing floor to check all material and manufacturing availability and demand, ensuring that both the parts and capacity are in place to meet their needs,” stated Ed Price, president and CEO of Milford Manufacturing Services. “As component lead times increase and our customers see more opportunities to sell product, this level of visibility is essential and a key differentiator of Milford Manufacturing Services.”

With this unprecedented, virtual available-to-promise capability, OEMs, in a self-service module through The Looking Glass™, can:

  • Determine delivery on a new production order based on standard requirements such as the date, quantity or both. The Looking Glass™ reviews current inventory levels, production demand, manufacturing capacity and material lead times to determine if a request can be fulfilled and generates a response in real-time for the OEM to review;
  • Immediately place new orders, if all materials and capacity requirements are met;
  • Work jointly with Milford Manufacturing Services if system constraints, such as material lead times or not enough manufacturing capacity, are identified. The Looking Glass™ provides a detailed constraint report outlining all issues directly to the OEM; and
  • Respond to market changes in real-time. Rapid access to critical available-to-promise information reduces OEM time-to-market, providing a competitive advantage and increased profitability.

“By adding the virtual available-to-promise capability to The Looking Glass™, we are dramatically cutting the traditional lag time from weeks to literally minutes to secure this information, and automating time-consuming, manual processes,” continued Price. “The result is real-time information that allows OEMs to rapidly respond to evolving product demands, while increasing revenue.”

The Looking Glass™ is a virtual manufacturing environment that provides OEMs with 24x7 online access to information and control of their product and supply chain throughout the manufacturing process. The Looking Glass™ is exclusively available to customers of Milford Manufacturing Services. For more information on The Looking Glass™, visit www.milfordmfg.com.
