Milford Manufacturing Services’ management team
includes:
Edward R. Price
President
Edward (Ed) R. Price is the sole owner of Milford Manufacturing
Services, LLC (MMS), an electronics manufacturing services
(EMS) company located in Milford, Massachusetts. During
his more than 30 years in the electronics industry,
Ed has experienced all aspects of the roller coaster
evolution of the EMS industry, from garage business,
to beneficiary of the global movement of original equipment
manufacturers (OEMs) to outsource their production.
In 1981 Ed co-founded Team Electronics, Inc., a regional
distributor of inter-connect products serving the burgeoning
mini-computer business in Boston’s Route 128 area.
In 1982 the company changed its name to Tec-Con Electronics,
Inc. He served as company President and Chief Executive
Officer from inception until he sold the business in
1999.
In order to complement its distribution business, throughout
the mid and late 1980’s, Tec-Con created various
subsidiaries to include:
- J&S Molding Corporation – molded cable
and wire harness assemblies.
- PAGG Manufacturing Corporation - turnkey printed
circuit board assembly (PCBA) and mechanical system
and sub-system assembly.
- HES Components, Inc. – a manufacturers’
rep company for inter-connect products.
As technology evolved, Ed invested aggressively –
frequently ahead of the curve - in the latest capital
equipment and information technology to position the
company to maintain its competitive advantage. In 1991,
the companies were merged into PAGG Corporation and
concurrently added its first fully automated surface
mount technology (SMT) PCBA line. By 1994, the Company
had eight (8) up-to-date SMT lines and built a brand
new 110,000 square foot manufacturing facility. In 1995,
PAGG implemented a state-of-the-art Oracle-based enterprise
resource planning (ERP) software solution to better
serve customers and suppliers.
In April, 1999 – the peak of the EMS business
cycle – Ed sold PAGG Corporation to Viasystems
Group, Inc., a global EMS conglomerate.
Unable to ride out the current phase of the EMS business
cycle, Viasystems filed for Chapter XI bankruptcy protection
in 2002. As part of its new Asia-based strategy, Viasystems
began disposing of its North American manufacturing
assets, including the Milford, MA facility. In January
2003, Ed acquired the shares of Viasystems Milford,
LLC and changed its name to Milford Manufacturing Services,
LLC.
Despite current conditions, Ed remains convinced that
the principles that underlie the outsourced model for
the manufacture of electronic devices remain valid.
However, he believes passionately that after riding
out the downturn, EMS companies will not survive based
on the fundamental advantages of outsourcing alone.
The companies that will survive and prosper will be
the ones that alleviate the pain - well known to EMS
businesses and OEMs alike – resulting from the
“information vacuum” inherent in the outsourcing
model. With Ed’s support, MMS is uniquely positioned
to make the investments needed to fill the “information
vacuum” by implementing low cost business practices
that promote flexibility, strategic component sourcing
and information systems. With this belief firmly in
mind, MMS has invested over $500k in its The Looking
Glass™ technology. In addition to customer self-service
capabilities, The Looking Glass™ provides OEMs
with a ubiquitous, real-time view into their virtual
manufacturing floor as well as every facet of their
supply chain.
